    songs & soundscapes

Born and raised on the Canadian praries, the imagery of the big sky and wide open landscapes have forever permeated his music.

A unique voice on the double bass, his captivating solo sets juxtapose his clear singing voice against the wild overtones and deep resonances projecting from his bass. He uses a unique combination of conventional, extended and invented techniques along with unconventional tools to extract a vast palate of sounds from his bass.

His first solo album ::Aposiopesis:: was released in 2008. Since then he has filled the bass chair on over 20 albums with artists such as The Barr Brothers, Benoit Delbecq, Lhasa de Sela and a long list of others.

In addition to his solo work, his main project is the Miles Perkin Quartet with British trumpet player Tom Arthurs, French pianist Benoit Delbecq, and Canadian drummer Thom Gossage. His singing and songwriting are featured in the noisy Berlin based band Coal Oven. He has released 4 CDs under his name, and has appeared on more than 25 other recordings. His work has been recorded by CBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3.

Miles is a frequent creator of music for theatre and dance productions. He performs regularly with “The Needle” featuring dancers Maya Caroll and Julyen Hamilton. He is currently in collaboration with director Armin Petras at the Staatstheater Stuttgart. Past collaborations include Kammerspiele Munich, Staatstheater Dresden, Van Grimde Corps Secrets (Dance, CA), Schaubuehne Berlin (Theater, DE), Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Jens Biedermann (Dance, CH), Berit Jentzsch (Dance, DE).

Currently based in Berlin, he is a member of bands such as Quairos, Sequoia, Glue and is an active participant in Berlin’s jazz and improvised music scene
